I think that we judge people alot when it comes to their gender..Like that if you get discrimitated against because of your difference… that’s ridiculous, No one should do that.Either the male or female is entitled to work that position no matter who it is originally made for. The owner should not say that your not fit to work that position because your a female/male.  Males are fit to do women’s work, and female’s are fit to do men’s work…And thats how it should be.

So for this assignment, i have chosen single parents because i think that they have to go through a lot when your trying to manage your kids, working and coming home and doing all these chores. Worrying about all your bills and groceries does not help with anything either.

Some single parents lose their jobs and then don’t have anything and have to go search for a new one, can you imagine not being able to pay your bills and everything gets cut off? and plus not being able to feed your children…thats really harsh on everyone. I think that the age group can be around the 30′s..that way your not to young and your not to old, and it seems like a perfect age that you would be living on your own, married/ divorced and have children. Compared to when you get older you could be retired and getting retirement money and still being able to pay your bills and do everything else. Even if you don’t have money to pay anything, sometimes going on welfare is not good enough. We should be finding a way to help single parents and who ever else is in poverty because no one should have to live their life like that.

I think that its very important that we stand up for the children because they cant always speak for themselves and the more people that we have standing up for them the more of  a protest we can create. The way we see this can help change the world, and it can also stop with kids getting abused. The more that we stand up for the kids, the more that we can make a difference. Which is what we should be doing. We don’t just have to change our minds, but we can help change other’s on their view of this.

Our impacts about our beliefs can effect others because sometimes we go on without thinking when it comes to judging people, and we dont think on how it hurts them, we just think about our opinion on them.  We need to learn what kind of people they are before judging them, and making these racist comments dont help with anything.  “think before you speak” is a great example., not all of us do it, and i know that i dont do it all the time, but mabye if we do this , it can help with our opinions on other people, and not judging them badly.

The conference that most of us had attended was a great experience and it taught us alot of new meanings that affect everyone, im glad that i went because i would have never felt better to know all the stuff that i learned, like attending the workshop “what language is that anyway” , it opened up my eyes to all the different meanings of curse words, and the little words that we use, like “goof” for example. It was a great experience.

Alex Sanchez made alot of great comments and proved to me that Homophobia does hurt everyone, even if your gay, straight or whatever. It opened up my eyes to think before you speak because the comments that might come out of your mouth will definately hurt someone. We all wish that there was a way to get rid of it but no matter what we do there is nothing that we can really do, maybe start a club at school or something, but there is nothing that we can do to control what other people say. Telling someone that what they said can help with stopping it.

I think that if we did something like starting a club or putting up signs at school about how homophobia hurts people can make a difference. That way, everyone can see what people have been through.

A new international workplace survey has found that more than a third of Canadians believe they have been discriminated against when applying for jobs, with the older and younger age groups facing the greatest prejudice.

The survey found that 41% of respondents in Canada say they have experienced discrimination of some type when applying for a job in the last five years.

The Kelly Global Workforce Index sought the views of approximately 70,000 people in 28 countries including more than 10,000 in Canada.

The major sources of discrimination identified by respondents were age (15%), race (10%), gender (8%) and disability (1%).

However, levels of discrimination in Canada are low by global standards. Canada ranked 20th on the list of 28 countries. Sweden, Thailand and Singapore were the countries that recorded the highest rates of discrimination.  The United States ranked 18th.

Approximately 9% of women and 6% of men reported gender discrimination when applying for work.

Almost 28% of workers aged 45 or older felt they had been discriminated against on the basis of their age.   But 22% of younger workers aged up to 24 also believed they were victims of age discrimination.

Approximately 34% of those surveyed said they also experienced discrimination in their day-to-day working life.

The vast majority of those who say they have been discriminated against did nothing about it and most were unhappy with the outcome.

Karin French, Vice President and General Manager for Kelly Canada, said the figures highlight how discrimination is changing over time and age is the new epidemic.

“At a time when we face an ageing population and skills shortages, many organizations are putting obstacles in the way of hiring older employees.

“This can be devastating for individuals but it is also means many organizations are shutting off an important source of talent and diversity.

“Ageism has overtaken ethnicity and sexism in many areas as the greatest source of discrimination in employment.

“Organizations that don’t address these issues directly can do themselves considerable damage and can suffer costs both direct and indirect.

“They may suffer high staff turnover, absenteeism, poor morale, low productivity, poor reputation, and also the possibility of civil claims and penalties arising from breach of anti discrimination laws,” said French.

“It is critical that managers ensure that employees fully understand their rights, and that managers faced with workplace discrimination take immediate steps to remedy the situation.

“Employees will themselves be looking to see that instances of discrimination are handled decisively, sensitively and effectively,” said French.

The survey found that people with university qualifications reported higher rates of discrimination.

Some industries including utilities, travel/leisure and engineering also had rates of discrimination above the national average.

In my Opinion, this whole thing on discrimnating people for when they are applying for a job is just terrible,  or even being discriminated against/sexually harassed while working.this needs to stop, there is alot of racism out there, but the question is how can we stop it?
